Thinking of visiting Melbourne? Here is a list of the top things to do while in Melbourne, Australia.
The capital of Victoria, Melbourne is artsy, modern, and a wonderful place for fantastic music, awesome food, amazing cafes, and friendly people.
Visitors will also find fantastic attractions both man made and natural and one of my favorite accommodation in Melbourne cbd that offers great service and reasonable prices.
For first time visitors deciding where to start your tour can be daunting. Melbourne, although small, packs a big punch when it comes to things to do. I’ve put a list of my top things to do while in Melbourne, Australia.
Things To Do While In Melbourne, Australia
Eureka Skydeck
To me the obvious place to start a tour of the city would be the Eureka Skydeck. The 975 ft. (297.3-metre) skyscraper is located in the Southbank precinct of Melbourne and has dizzying panoramic views of every inch of the city.
The viewing platform is the Southern Hemisphere’s highest point and is centrally located within the city offering tourists a point to start their discoveries.
For risk-takers, “The Edge” is an experience you will never forget. A 5-sided glass box seemingly floating in mid air provides dramatic views straight down into the city.
St Paul’s Cathedral
At the center of the Melbourne you’ll find St Paul’s Cathedral. With its breathtaking Gothic architecture and artwork the church is a definite must see regardless of your religious affiliation.
Open since 1891 the magnificent cathedral has been a top attraction in Melbourne for tourists and locals alike.
Queen Victoria Market
Australia is the epitome of all things big. And nothing says that more than the Southern hemisphere’s largest open-aired market.
Home to an endless array of shops, eateries, and iconic halls of anything you can think of to eat, wear, do, and see, Queen Victoria Market is definitely a top ten thing to do while in Melbourne . What makes this place even better is the atmosphere. The friendly Aussies are happy to chat, give you advice, and discuss local gossip.
Melbourne Zoo
Just five minutes from center city sits the magnificent, realistic Melbourne Zoo home to over 250 species of animals from every continent. African and Asian rainforests are beautifully represented as well as the Australian bush. There’s an underwater park. Animals like lions, Orangutans, various species of monkeys, and elephants walk free in simulated habitats.
The zoo, of course, houses a unique display of wildlife indigenous to Australia, one of which is the Little Penguins and Australian Fur Seals.
Melbourne Star Observation Wheel
The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is located in the waterfront district of Melbourne. The enclosed, glass cabins carry up to 20 visitors on a 30-minute ride that offers a bird’s eye view of the city and its surrounding area.
Riders are given a detailed explanation of the history of Melbourne, its culture, and peculiarities. You can read this info on Tales of Melbourne information panels or listen to an audio version by purchasing headsets.
Melbourne is a must see destination for many people around the world and a source of pride for her countrymen and women. If you’re planning a trip to the country down under definitely consider some of the sites on my top ten things to do while in Melbourne.
