Perched 112 feet high and facing north overlooking the Chinese people sits the Tian Tan Buddha. The Buddha took 12 years to complete and was designed to deliver blessings to all who visit.
The planning of the Tian Tan Buddha started in 1976. It was constructed by the China Aeronautic Department and was completed in 1993. It was named one of the “Ten Engineering Wonders in Hong Kong” and was awarded the “Merit of Unique Artistic Features” by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in 2000.
To get a closer look you’ll need to climb 268 steps up to the extraordinary statue. You’ll also enjoy the extensive mountain and sea views that can be seen from the base.
